A planned colony among medieval tombs
Green Park was laid out in the early 1960s on land scattered with medieval monuments. In fact, five of them are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India, including the twin Dadi-Poti tombs and the Lodi-era Biran ka Gumbad, Chhoti Gumti and Sakri Gumti.
The colony comes in two halves. Green Park Main has the main market, with its restaurants, salons and cafes, while Green Park Extension lies to the north, towards AIIMS, and is almost entirely residential. Both halves use lettered blocks, and many letters appear in both, which is why the full address matters.
Most plots are compact, typically around 200 sq yd. Like the rest of South Delhi, however, Green Park is rebuilding itself one plot at a time into stilt-plus-four floors, which is the only source of new homes here.
